Watson and Crick describe the double-helix structure of DNA
+26
On 25 April 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick published their landmark paper in *Nature* describing the double-helix structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). The structure explained how genetic information could be copied and passed between generations.
Crucial X-ray crystallography data was provided by Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling. Watson, Crick, and Maurice Wilkins received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962.
