Answers to common questions
What is Tempestry?
Tempestry is a platform for building and exploring curated timelines of historical events. Create your own timelines in Studio, browse timelines made by others, or explore the full event archive.
How do I create a timeline?
Sign in and click "Studio" in the navigation bar. Hit "New timeline", give it a title, then use the editor to search and add events. Drag to reorder, then save when you're happy.
What is the Explore page?
Explore shows every event in the archive on a single interactive timeline. Drag to pan through history, scroll to zoom between century and week level, and click any event to drill into its sub-events.
How does voting work?
You can upvote or downvote events. Votes influence the event's score and help surface the most significant moments in search results.
What sources should I include?
Link to reliable sources — encyclopaedias, academic papers, reputable news archives. Good sources help other users verify the event.
Can I embed a timeline on my own site?
Yes — open any public timeline and click the "Embed" button in the header. Copy the iframe snippet and paste it into your site. The timeline is fully interactive inside the embed.
How do I report inaccurate content?
Contact us and we'll review the event and correct it.
